Two Wheeler Sales Snapshot – August 2021

Two Wheeler dispatches in August 2021 declined by 14.6 percent when compared to August 2020. Even the two-wheeler industry hasn't been shielded from semi-conductor shortage and has impacted the dispatches.


The two-wheeler industry is marching towards normalcy and the customer sentiments are improving gradually. The industry is hopeful of a revival in the festive season and is backed by decent monsoons this year, vaccination drive gaining pace, and last-mile retail picking up.

  • Hero MotoCorp sold 4,31,137 units in August 2021 and recorded a decline of over 24 percent YoY. Hero recorded the highest Market Share fall in August 2021.

  • Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s August 2021 sales was 4,01,480 units compared to the August 2020 sales of 4,28,238 units and registered a 6.2 percent YoY fall. However; it was able to reduce its gap from Hero Motocorp and also increase its market share significantly.

  • TVS Motor Company registered sales of 1,79,999 units in August 2021 and recorded a decline from 2,18,338 units in August 2020. It was one of the few OEMs to register a drop in YoY Market Share in Aug'21.

  • Bajaj Auto recorded dispatches of 1,57,971 units in August 2021 and the volumes fell by 11.4 percent from 1,78,220 units in August 2020. The OEM is also aggressively seeking volumes from the Export markets and its exports shot up 26 percent YoY!

  • Suzuki Motorcycle India reported one of the highest YoY growth among mass-market Two Wheeler OEMs and Suzuki's Market Share shot up to 4.64 percent in August 2021 from 3.41 percent in August 2020.

  • Yamaha India recorded dispatches of 54,042 units in August 2021 and the volumes dipped over 10 percent from 60,505 units in August 2020.

  • Royal Enfield sold around 39,070 units in August 2021, down 17.9 percent from August 2020 volumes of 47,571 units.
