Yamaha Motor India has officially expanded its electric mobility portfolio with the launch of the Aerox-E at an introductory price of ₹2.81 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned as a premium electric maxi-scooter, the Aerox-E is aimed at enthusiasts seeking sporty performance, advanced technology, and distinctive styling rather than mass-market affordability.
The Aerox-E becomes Yamaha's flagship electric scooter in India, sitting above the more practical EC-06 and carrying forward the aggressive design language of the petrol-powered Aerox 155 while adopting an all-electric powertrain.

Sporty Performance Meets Electric Mobility
Powering the Aerox-E is a 9.4 kW peak electric motor that produces 48 Nm of torque, enabling a claimed top speed of around 95.5 km/h. Energy comes from two removable 1.5 kWh lithium-ion battery packs, delivering a certified riding range of up to 117 km under ideal conditions.
The removable battery setup offers greater flexibility for charging, especially for urban users without dedicated home charging infrastructure.
Charging Time
Single battery: Approximately 3 hours 10 minutes
Both batteries: Around 6 hours 20 minutes
Multiple Ride Modes & Premium Features
Yamaha has equipped the Aerox-E with several features typically seen in premium electric scooters:
Eco, Standard and Power riding modes
Boost mode for stronger acceleration
Reverse assist
5-inch TFT colour display
Bluetooth connectivity via Y-Connect
Turn-by-turn navigation
Smart key system
Single-channel ABS
Traction Control System (TCS)
The scooter continues to feature its signature sporty riding posture, large wheels and maxi-scooter ergonomics that have made the Aerox 155 popular among enthusiasts.
Practicality Takes a Small Hit
One compromise compared to the petrol Aerox is luggage capacity. Since the battery packs are mounted beneath the seat, under-seat storage drops to 15 litres, compared to 24.5 litres on the internal combustion version. Riders can also operate the scooter using a single battery pack, although Yamaha notes that overall performance is reduced in this mode.
Premium Pricing Positions It in a Niche Segment
At ₹2.81 lakh (ex-showroom), the Aerox-E enters the market at a considerably higher price than mainstream electric scooters from brands like Ola Electric, TVS, Bajaj and Ather.
Instead, Yamaha appears to be targeting buyers who prioritise:
Sporty riding dynamics
Premium build quality
Brand appeal
Advanced electronics
Maxi-scooter styling
Rather than competing on outright value.
Auto Punditz Take
The launch of the Aerox-E signals Yamaha's intention to carve out a premium niche in India's rapidly evolving electric two-wheeler market. Instead of chasing volume, the company is leveraging the Aerox brand's sporty identity to appeal to enthusiasts looking for an electric scooter with motorcycle-like performance characteristics.
While its pricing places it beyond the reach of many mainstream buyers, the Aerox-E offers a distinctive proposition through its removable batteries, premium technology, connected features and performance-oriented setup. Its success will ultimately depend on whether Indian consumers are willing to pay a significant premium for Yamaha's engineering, brand equity and riding experience in the electric era.
