Toyota's First EV Urban Cruiser Ebella E3 in India Arrives at ₹23.6 Lakh

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has officially entered India's electric vehicle market with the launch of the Urban Cruiser Ebella — its maiden battery-electric vehicle — priced at an introductory ₹23.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The Ebella E3 is positioned as the most feature-loaded variant in the lineup.

Toyota is expected to announce prices of the lower E1 and E2 variants separately, which will play a crucial role in deciding how competitive the model becomes against rivals in the mass-market EV space.

The Ebella  is powered by a 61 kWh LFP battery pack paired with a 128 kW electric motor that produces 193 Nm of torque. It uses a front-wheel-drive layout and offers a claimed driving range of 543 km on a full charge. The SUV supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in 45 minutes. It is a 5-seater and measures 4,285 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width and 1,640 mm in height, while its wheelbase stands at 2,700 mm.

Design & exterior

The Ebella embodies Toyota's new "Urban Tech" design philosophy, combining a bold SUV presence with sleek, futuristic aerodynamic styling. The front showcases Toyota's distinctive hammerhead-inspired fascia, accompanied by full-LED headlights and daytime running lights. Its sculpted body, smooth aerodynamic panels, and 18-inch alloy wheels enhance its stance. Buyers have the option of selecting from five monotone and four dual-tone color combinations.

Interior & features

The Ebella is packed with premium features in a single variant. Highlights include premium cabin with a minimal dashboard, digital displays, and soft-touch surfaces, ambient lighting, dual-tone interiors, and a two-spoke squircle steering wheel for an upscale feel. Key features include a 10.1-inch integrated Audio Display Unit and a Premium JBL sound system. Additional comforts are a panoramic roof, smooth dial shift, air vents, electronic parking brake, front seat armrest, ventilated front seats and a 10-way adjustable driver seat.

The Ebella emphasizes connected-car convenience with Toyota’s i-CONNECT system for vehicle information and controls, supporting range, charging, navigation, and convenience functions, along with smartwatch connectivity.

Safety & ADAS

Toyota has also given strong attention to safety. The Urban Cruiser Ebella comes with 7 airbags as standard across variants, while the E3 adds a more advanced safety package with Level 2 ADAS.

The safety kit includes features such as adaptive cruise control, lane assist, 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, hill-hold control, multi-collision brake and regenerative braking system. This should help Toyota position the Ebella as a safe and technology-rich EV SUV.

Warranty & EV Ownership Support

Toyota is backing the Ebella with a strong ownership package. The SUV comes with a

3-year/1,00,000 km standard warranty, while the battery pack is covered under an

8-year/2,00,000 km warranty.

This could be an important advantage for buyers who are still cautious about EV battery life, long-term maintenance and resale value. Toyota’s wide service network and trained EV technicians could further help build buyer confidence.

Market Positioning

At ₹23.60 lakh, the Urban Cruiser Ebella E3 is not positioned as a budget EV. Instead, Toyota appears to be targeting customers who want a premium, long-range electric SUV backed by the brand’s reliability and after-sales ecosystem.

The Ebella will compete with models such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6 and the upcoming Maruti e Vitara. Since the Ebella shares its broad foundation with the Maruti e Vitara, the pricing and feature differences between the two models will be closely watched.

Toyota’s first mass-market EV has entered India with a premium price tag, but also with a strong package on paper. The 543 km claimed range, 61 kWh battery, Level 2 ADAS, 7 airbags as standard and Toyota’s battery warranty make the Ebella E3 a serious contender in the electric SUV space.

However, the real volume potential will depend on the prices of the E1 and E2 variants. If Toyota can price the lower trims aggressively, the Urban Cruiser Ebella could become a strong alternative for buyers looking for a dependable, long-range electric SUV from a trusted brand.
