Ultraviolette Announces BIGGA Factory in Hosur; Tesseract Production Capacity to Reach 2.5 Lakh Units Annually
Ultraviolette Automotive has announced plans to establish a new manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, as it prepares to scale up production of the Tesseract electric scooter and expand its future product portfolio.
Named the BIGGA Factory—short for “Big Global Ambition”—the facility will be located at the SIPCOT Industrial Park in Shoolagiri. The Tamil Nadu government will facilitate the allotment of land for the project.
Ultraviolette says the factory will initially ramp up to an annual manufacturing capacity of 2.5 lakh vehicles in phases. The infrastructure will be designed to support a further expansion to five lakh vehicles per year, depending on market demand.

Tesseract Production to Be the Initial Focus
The upcoming facility will primarily manufacture the Ultraviolette Tesseract. The electric scooter is expected to become an important volume product for the Bengaluru-based electric-vehicle manufacturer.
Unlike Ultraviolette’s performance-focused electric motorcycles, the Tesseract will allow the company to participate in India’s considerably larger electric-scooter market. The planned production capacity suggests that Ultraviolette is preparing for a significant increase in volumes once manufacturing begins.
The factory will also be equipped to support the company’s future vehicles across several categories, including sports motorcycles, crossovers, cruisers, street motorcycles and scooters.
However, Ultraviolette has not yet announced the factory’s construction timeline, commissioning date or the schedule for beginning Tesseract production.
Existing Bengaluru Factory Will Continue Operations
The BIGGA Factory will operate alongside Ultraviolette’s existing manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The company has clarified that the Bengaluru plant will continue its regular operations after the new facility becomes operational.
According to Ultraviolette, the additional factory will strengthen its manufacturing presence while providing the capacity required to serve a wider customer base in India and international markets.
Narayan Subramaniam, Co-founder and CEO of Ultraviolette, said the company’s next phase would focus on building scale after establishing its foundation around technology, performance and product development.
He added that the new factory would provide the manufacturing infrastructure needed to scale the Tesseract and introduce the company’s future products.
Why Ultraviolette Selected Hosur
Hosur is one of India’s established automotive and manufacturing centres, with access to an extensive supplier network and a skilled workforce. Its proximity to Bengaluru also allows Ultraviolette to remain close to its research and development operations and existing suppliers.
The location should help the company coordinate product development, component sourcing and manufacturing while reducing logistical complexity.
Niraj Rajmohan, Co-founder and CTO of Ultraviolette, said Hosur’s automotive ecosystem, supply-chain advantages and proximity to the company’s R&D operations were important factors behind the decision.
Industry 4.0 Manufacturing and Automated Quality Checks
Ultraviolette plans to equip the BIGGA Factory with advanced automation and digital manufacturing systems.
A Manufacturing Execution System will enable real-time tracking and tracing of production. The facility will also incorporate digital lean-manufacturing processes and digital quality-control systems.
Planned technologies include:
Collaborative robots for sorting, welding and assembly
Automated assembly mistake-proofing systems
Vision-based inspection equipment
Real-time production tracking
Digital quality-management systems
Automated process monitoring
These systems are intended to improve manufacturing precision, consistency and overall production efficiency as volumes increase.
The facility will also include a specialised test track. Every vehicle produced at the factory is expected to undergo evaluation before dispatch.
Ultraviolette has described the upcoming plant as a green manufacturing facility, although detailed information about its renewable-energy usage, water management or emissions-reduction measures has not yet been disclosed.
Around 2,000 Jobs Expected in the Initial Phase
The BIGGA Factory is expected to create approximately 2,000 employment opportunities during its initial phase. Ultraviolette says the number could increase further over the following five years as production and operations expand.
The project is also likely to generate indirect employment across component manufacturing, logistics, maintenance and other supporting services in the Hosur automotive ecosystem.
Supporting Ultraviolette’s International Expansion
Ultraviolette is expanding beyond India and has already taken its electric motorcycles to several European markets. The higher production capacity planned at Hosur could support both domestic sales and future exports.
The new plant will provide Ultraviolette with an industrial base capable of supporting multiple products instead of relying mainly on a limited-volume performance-motorcycle portfolio.
The success of this expansion, however, will depend on the timely completion of the factory, market acceptance of the Tesseract and Ultraviolette’s ability to build a sufficiently large sales and service network.
